What is Needed for an In-House Label Printing Station?

Thermal Transfer or Direct Thermal Printer

Thermal Transfer or Direct Thermal Printer

These printers apply heat through a print head to create the desired print. Thermal Transfer printers apply heat to the back of a ribbon that has been coated with ink. The combination of heat and pressure releases the ink onto the label material.

Direct Thermal uses a similar method except there is no ribbon and the heat is applied directly to a specially coated material that turns black when exposed to heat. More Information

Thermal Transfer Ribbon

Thermal Transfer Ribbon

Thermal transfer ribbons need to work with the label material selected. There are 3 main types of ribbon, Resin, Wax/Resin and Wax but beyond those types there are slight differences between the different manufacturers. It’s important to pair the ribbon to the label stock. We can help by testing the ribbon/label combination prior to making the label blanks, this way the customer knows for sure that the combination of materials will work when it reaches their floor.
